15 April 2012

Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Lamba who lived in a little house near a forest with his Monni, his Daddy and his dragon Harold. Harold was a very small dragon, and he was all the colors of the rainbow. He was so small that Lamba could not ride him, but he was very strong and could fly high. He was so small he could fit into small places.

Lamba and Harold liked to go into the forest and spy on the giants. The giants were very tall, so tall that if you were standing by their feet, you couldn't see what their heads were doing, or if you were up by their heads, you couldn't see what their feet were doing. So Lamba and Harold worked together to spy on the giants. Lamba stood behind a tree near their feet, and Harold flew up to the tops of the trees and hid in the high branches. They watched and they listened to the deep, rumbling voices of the giants, and they realized what the giants were doing. The giants were building a wall. As Lamba and Harold listened, they realized that the giants were scared. They were worried about the frost monsters. The frost monsters were smaller than giants, but if they touched you, then you would be turned into an ice statue, and in the Spring, you would melt away, and that would be the end of you. The giants wanted to build the wall before the winter so that the forest would be safe from the frost monsters.

Back in the village, Lamba's Monni and Daddy and the other grown-ups were worried about the giants. They didn't know what they were doing, but they didn't like them being so close to the village. They started to think of ways to scare the giants away. Now, giants are not afraid of very many things, but one thing that does scare them is elephants. No one really knows why they are scared of elephants. The giants are so large that they could step on the elephant and squish it the way you or I could squish a bug. But they are terrified of elephants. The people in the village decided to ride their elephants to where the giants were building the wall and scare them away.

Just then, Lamba and Harold came back from spying on the giants. They saw the people getting the elephants ready. Lamba told his Monni and Daddy about the wall and the frost monsters. His parents believed him, but the other grown-ups were so scared of the giants they did not believe Lamba. Lamba and Harold needed to do something fast, or else the village would not be safe when winter came. Suddenly, they had an idea. Elephants are very afraid of fire. Lamba told Harold to fly between the elephants and the giants and breathe fire. When the elephants ran away, Lamba took the people to listen to the giants. They realized that the giants were building the wall, and they heard about the frost monsters. No one wanted to be turned into a an ice statue! The people decided to help the giants build the wall instead of scaring them away, and the village was saved from the frost monsters. Everyone threw a big party for Lamba and Harold to thank them.

The End.

Welcome!

I am the mother of a very fun and imaginative 5-year-old. Our bedtime routine includes lots of snuggles, reading a few books, and coming up with a story or two together. I find myself forgetting many of these stories, to the frustration of my son, who often wants to hear a repeat of a favorite, and this blog is my attempt to collect these stories.
